Communication aid, not an interpreter

Vozco is an educational and communication aid. It is intentionally designed to help English-speaking clinicians acquire and deploy high-yield clinical Spanish phrases and to assist short, bedside exchanges with Spanish-speaking patients.

What a Qualified Medical Interpreter (QMI) provides

Under Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act and HHS implementing regulations, covered entities must offer language-access services performed by qualified interpreters. A qualified medical interpreter:

• Has demonstrated bilingual proficiency assessed against an objective standard.
• Adheres to a professional code of ethics including confidentiality and impartiality.
• Can interpret effectively, accurately, and impartially, both receptively and expressly, using specialized vocabulary.
• Is accountable to the covered entity that engages them.

What Vozco does not provide

• It does not satisfy a covered entity's obligation to provide qualified interpreter services.
• It cannot be used in lieu of an interpreter for informed consent, advance directives, surgical consent, behavioral-health intake, or any encounter in which an interpreter is required by law, accreditation standard, or institutional policy.
• It does not constitute the practice of medicine or interpretation services.

User responsibility

Clinicians using Vozco at the bedside are responsible for verifying the accuracy of any machine-generated translation before acting on it, escalating to a qualified interpreter when clinical complexity, legal requirement, or patient request demands one, and documenting language-access decisions in accordance with their institution's policies.
